Teaching Philosophy
I believe that college is an excellent opportunity for individuals to be able to explore new disciplines. It is an opportunity for students to explore subjects that for the first time are elected by their interests rather than simple requirements. As such, I endeavor to provide an effective and meaningful opportunity for students to approach a subject. I think learning is a partnership that allows students to bring their own perspective, expertise, and experience into the conversation. With your interest and work, I hope we can work together to thoughtfully consider this courses’ information and inspire new avenues to explore.
I am also a strong proponent of constructivist teaching theory. This idea is based on the understanding that everyone has a certain way of looking at a topic. By taking this understanding and putting it through rigorous challenges we can grow our understanding to incorporate new information. Learning is a difficult process where we confront our misconceptions, prejudices, and missing knowledge. My goal is to provide an inclusive, support, and safe environment for my students to experience these growing pains during their education.
